Laser Hair Removal really is the ultimate treatment for reducing thick, coarse hair permanently on the face and body area and the treatments are quick and with very minimal discomfort.

The hair removal procedure itself is very straightforward.

You will lie on a treatment bed and make yourself comfortable.

As a safety measure, you’ll be asked to wear some protective eyewear, which the practitioner will also wear.

A thin layer of transparent, cold gel (similar to that used in ultra sound) is applied to the area so that the laser is able to move over the area with ease.

The laser practitioner will then run the laser head in a sweeping motion over the area 6 to 12 times like a paint brush. It fires tiny bursts of energy 10 times a second, slowly and gently heating the hair follicles.

You will feel the area warming slightly but at the same time the patented DualChill treatment tip keeps your skin cool and comfortable.

Depending on which part of your body is being treated, the skin may go slightly red. Treatment times vary depending on the person and the area being treated. It can be as quick as ten minutes, depending on what treatment you’re having.

While the melanin in dark skin is exponentially more sensitive to the heat used in laser treatment, Soprano Titanium’s SHR method has been clinically proven to be the safe for dark skin types.

Rather than exposing the hair follicle to a single high energy pulse which can cause trauma to skin with a high melanin count, SHR gradually heats the skin until the required heat energy is delivered to the hair follicle.

Laser hair removal is most effective when the hair is at the growing stage - also known as ‘anagen’.

Our hair goes through three stages of growth:

1. Anagen

2. Catagen (Resting)

3. Telogen (Shedding)

Hair follicles that are resting or shedding will not be significantly affected by the laser, which is why multiple treatments are needed to ensure that all of the hair follicles are treated during the growing stage. This is why we schedule your appointments 5-6 weeks apart, for optimum hair removal results!

Absolutely, Laser hair removal with the Soprano Titanium is suitable with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). One of the symptoms of PCOS is increased hair growth which can occur all over the body. Laser hair removal is an excellent choice in reducing and removing this hair. PCOS will constantly be trying to undo the effects of the laser treatment so more regular top ups may be required after a course is complete. We treat many clients at Smooth Skin Clinic who have PCOS.

For many patients six treatments gets the results they are looking for. Typically a hair reduction of 85%-95% can be achieved by those who respond well to treatment.

A small proportion are more resistant to treatment and areas such as the face and bikini area tend to be more resistant for all patients. Typically the more treatments you do, the more hair removal is achieved.

For the majority of patients a minimum of 6 treatments is required. The areas such as bikini and face can occasionally, due to hormones, be more resistant and may require more treatments. Each person will react slightly differently to treatment but the more treatments you do, the more removal is achieved.

You can request the same therapist and we will let you know if that therapist is not available due to illness/holiday etc. Some of our clients see the same therapist for each treatment but many will go to whoever is available on the date required. We spend a lot of time training our team to ensure the same high standard of treatment is offered throughout your course.

Most patients will not feel any after effects from a laser hair removal treatment. Some redness, swelling or itching that will quickly fade is possible. Soprano lasers have a highly effective skin cooling system incorporated into the treatment hand-piece to ensure the treatment is safe and as painless as possible.

Laser hair removal is permanent!

But, laser will only treat hairs that are what is known as ‘terminal’ (thicker, darker adult hair). Fine baby hair (vellus hair) will not tend to be reduced by laser treatment. A natural part of the ageing process is for your finer baby hair to gradually thicken and become terminal hair. Some hairs that have been switched from terminal to vellus hair rather than being completely destroyed by the laser treatment may switch back to terminal hair over time and existing vellus hair may switch to terminal hair so top up treatments may be required.

Results can vary and some clients may take a little longer to start seeing results.

Typically anything from 60%-100% of the hair treated may shed around 2-4 weeks after treatment.

Most of this hair will start to re-grow in the week or 2 before your next treatment. As you progress through your course you will see less and less hair re-growth after each treatment and the hair becoming finer and less dense.

Aftercare is simple.

Keep the area cool!

Avoid extreme sun exposure for a week after treatment to reduce the chance of hyper pigmentation.

Avoid extreme sun exposure, saunas, steam rooms, vigorous exercise, hot baths or showers and treat the skin gently for the first 48 hours after treatment.

After your first laser hair removal treatment you may see some redness or itching which quickly fades but most clients will have no after-effects. The Soprano laser systems employ a super cooled tip which rapidly and effectively cools the skin before, during and after treatment. A small percentage of clients may see redness that takes a little longer to fade.

A minimum of 6 sessions, correctly spaced is recommended for a fantastic hair free result.

Typically, a hair removal of around 80-90% can be achieved for clients that respond well to treatment from 6 sessions.

Areas such as the face and the bikini area tend to be more resistant to treatment and more sessions are sometimes required, for a final, hairless result!

A small percentage of clients are more resistant to treatment and will require more sessions to reach that level of reduction. Everyone is different with different hair colour, skin colour, hormones, genetics and general resistance to the treatment.
